Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have been around for decades, and they have proven themselves to be a great NFL team. For the majority of their years, they were coached by Don Shula, who has been referred to as one of the “most successful head coaches” in football history. During his 26 years coaching the Dolphins, they had losing records for only two years.

Here is a list of some of the many accomplishments of the Miami Dolphins:

  • In 1972 and 1973, the Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl. They were highly successful with two consecutive wins. They made several more Super Bowl appearances though: 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001.
  • The Dolphins have won five Conference Championships with the AFC: 1971, 1972, 1973, 1982, and 1984.
  • Twelve AFC East Division Championships have been won by the Dolphins: 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1992, 1994, and 2000.

In addition to being able to boast several championships, the Miami Dolphins also have a history of highly prolific players. Six Hall of Fame inductees played for the Dolphins during the 1970’s alone, including Larry Csonka and Bob Griese. In the 1980’s and 90’s, quarterback Dan Marino helped bring a lot of success and fortune to the team. He became one of the most popular passers in NFL history, and broke several passing records.

In 1985, Dan Marino helped lead the Dolphins to Super Bowl XIX. The game had been hyped for awhile considering Dan Marino would be going up against another great quarterback, Joe Montana from the San Francisco Giants. Both teams put up a good fight, and the Dolphins ended up losing 38-16.

Dan Marino retired at halftime during the Dolphins-Ravens game on Sept. 17, 2000. He was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

Currently the Dolphins have Tony Sparano as their head coach. He spent previous seasons assisting with the Dallas Cowboys, and has over twenty years of coaching experience for both college football and NFL.

All though it’s been 35 years since the last time the Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl, Head Coach Tony Sparano may just be what they need to finally win again. He does have a lot of experience with another successful team. Unfortunately though, on October 12 of this year, Miami lost a close game to a team they’ve always had problems with, Houston Texans. They lost 29-28.
